Silicone is one of the youngsters among working materials. It was not discovered until the beginning of the 20th century and was first produced on a large technical scale in the 1940s. An enormous number of different types can be made.

The material has now made its way into many areas of everyday life. It can be found in the form of babies’ pacifiers, groove sealant, baking shapes, toys for pets and a great deal more. The reason why silicone has become so common is its unique range of properties.

  • Most types of silicone do not smell or have any taste either.
  • The material also has particularly good resistance to the natural elements. It is extremely resistant to ozone, UV and cosmic radiation.
  • Silicone can be used in very different temperatures. They range from -60°C to 250°C. It is very hard to set alight and has excellent resistance to boiling water and steam up to 140°C.
  • The material also withstands chemicals like paints, aqueous solutions, weak acids, polar liquids (e.g. gasoline and oil) and non-polar liquids (polyvalent alcohols).
  • Another benefit is its outstanding ability to provide insulation.
These characteristic features make silicone an ideal material for manufacturing data input devices for a very wide range of applications.
  • Thanks to being physiologically harmless, silicone is outstandingly suitable for use in hygiene-sensitive areas. Our keyboards and mice made of silicone are therefore extremely popular in the food industry and the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. The silicone casing prevents any water penetrating and enables the devices to be cleaned thoroughly and easily. This saves time when cleaning, but also prevents any germs, viruses or bacteria from spreading because the material can be disinfected.

  • Units are not only clinically clean, but may become dirty too! The standards for data input devices in a tough industrial setting are particularly high. Thanks to its extreme resistance to a wide variety of aggressive materials and its ability to be used in very different temperatures, our operating elements made of silicone can also be readily used in areas with adverse conditions. The devices are simple to clean, while water and dirt cannot penetrate them because of their sealed surface. This guarantees a long serviceable life.
