This year’s Thin[gk]athon, perfectly organized by the Smart Systems Hub and hosted with great attention to detail at the Buntspeicher Zwönitz, was all about the motto “Energy efficiency – thought – done.” Four exciting challenges attracted more than 30 participants who developed and discussed innovative solutions.
Our team took on the task of rethinking energy monitoring in manufacturing companies. The goal was to avoid peak loads, prepare data for reporting, and sustainably reduce energy costs. To achieve this, we combined sensors and gateways from in.hub for consumption measurement with customizable Panel PCs from GETT.GROUP to visualize and analyze the data. We were supported by dedicated students from the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ) and the Chemnitz University of Technology.
The results were impressive: numerous ideas, exciting concepts, and lively discussions culminated in a joint hardware and software solution. Particularly valuable was the exchange with other participants, where we explored how to take the step from a Smart Factory to a Smart Company—approaching energy efficiency in a holistic way. In the audience voting, we proudly secured second place, just behind the hosts from Buntspeicher, to whom we extend our warmest congratulations on their victory.
A big thank you goes to the Smart Systems Hub team for their organization and support, the Buntspeicher team for their hospitality, and to all participants and guests of the final event for their commitment and contributions. Special thanks also to my colleagues André Sachs and Jens Kieselbach, who prepared the challenge and provided hands-on support on site.
